1. 研究目的与意义

for past many years,people have studied a lot about the pidgin english.i have a great interest in studying the pidgin english.pidgin english is a special english variety.it#8217;s the product of commercial trade between chinese and foreign businessmen.as a special language, it had been used in many fields, like commercial trade, diplomatic affairs and cultural contact in the past few years.

not only in the modern history but also in the teaching process of modern chinese language and foreign language, the phenomenon of pidgin english is worth studying.by studying the pidgin english, we can deeply know the nature of modern-day chinese society------semi-colonial and semi-feudal and the actual situation of the development of chinese language and modern translation.at the same time,it reveals the regular pattern between the development of language and language acquisition.through studying the pidgin english, language can be meaningful just aftre it is accepted by that society,people of that time, if it cannot be accepted by that society, it will naturally be knocked out, like the pidgin english which had been knocked out of the history since the appearance of modern english.and because the need of social communication, people will have no excuse to refute foreign concepts and things.we can enlarge the study of the theory of language contact, and in the research, we can better understand how a language can affect another .we can also use the pidgin english to help us study the homoousia in the process of language integration and language development.

new language learners always combine mother tongue with target language, and they are used to using the rules of mother tongue to replace the rules of foreign language and reduce the amounts of redundant messages in their communication,which easily cause the negative transformation of the mother tongue.by studying the characteristics and other things like different kinds of pidgin english, history about the pidgin english, we can get something useful for our english study.the common pronunciation in the voice can help us to use homophonic memory to study english.we can get rid of overweight load of english study of new language learners.we should create conditions to cultivate the thoughts of english and improve the practice of english.studying the pidgin english can give us some enlightment, we should pay attention to the creativity of students in the teaching process and practice of language and avoid negative transformation of mother tongue.

according to the material that i have found,the earliest works about the pidgin english is the #8220;pidgin-english sing-song:songs and stories in china-english dialect#8221;, which was published in london and was written by charles g.leland, 1824-1903(leland, 2004:181).charles recorded the radical characteristics of pidgin english in the form of ballad,which is often used by foreign low-class people. another works about pidgin english is #8220;pidgin english rhymes:being the strange adventures of wei man-man and ossaw tee#8221;, itwas published in shanghai in 1900 and written by h.g.hayter(德怀特,1993).#8221;broken china: a vocabulary of pidgin english#8221; was written by a.p.hill and published in shanghai in 1920.#8221;the linguistic professor robert a.hall of american cornell university, he had discussed and analyzed the worldwide pidgin english in his book #8220;hands off pidgin english#8221;(hill,1955)and a part of his book is concerned about chinese circumstances.

and in the early period of 19^thcentury, there is also some content about pidgin english. the earliest people who systematically recorded the pidgin english is robert morrison, 1782-1834 and his son.in 1823, this christian missionary, morrison published his book #8220;notices concerning china and the port of canton#8221; in malacca.and he enclosed a #8220;english and chinese index#8221; in the end of his book(邱志红,2005). this index is not only the index of the vocabulary in his book, but also it#8217;s an explanation to the vocabulary which includes pidgin english.but morrison just called it #8220;slang of canton#8221;.and his son john robert morrison, 1812-1843,has published a book which is called 《中国商业指南》.in the first part of his book, he talked about the #8216;glossary of words and phrases to the jargon spoken at canton#8217;(morrison,1834).this book lists and explains vocabulary, phrases and sentences in details and has studied the cause of the pidgin english in the basic stage. and in january 1836, american missionary samuel wells williams, 1812-1884, has published #8216;jargon spoken at canton#8217; in the fourth consecutive article of chinese repository (williams,1836).this not only provides people with a comprehensive text on pidgin english, but also discussed about pidgin english in septic angles.and he called the english which was used in guangzhou was a vulgar language and he pointed out that #8216;the jargon called canton english#8217;(williams,1836).while another american missionary w.a.p.martin, 1827-1916, introduced pidgin english which can be learnt without a teacher when he talked about his experience of learning chinese in the 《花甲记忆》(丁韪良,2004).and also an american business man william c. hunter, 1812-1891, published a book which is called #8220;fan kuei at canton#8221; in1882.in his book, he introduced special language which was used as a medium tool for the communication between chinese and foreigners(亨特,1993).

in the 12^thtongzhi,qing dynasty,one student called yangxun continued to publish about one hundred poems 《别琴竹枝词》 in the 《申报》(杨勋,1880).it reappears pidgin english in the form of shanghai dialect. wangzhi who traveled england had written a book called 《海客日谭》 in 1872.the preface of this book is 《英吉利语略》, in this part,she used dialect of shanghai to explain some words that are related with people#8217;s daily life(王芝,1872).after all these, there are two editions of 《无师自通英语录》.these two editions are mainly for people#8217;s use and facilitate the trade between our country and foreign country.

4. 计划与进度安排

According to the schedule of my graduating thesis.I think that a nice topic is needed to be chosen between November 1, 2022 and November 23, 2022. So in that period, I did a lot of research andchose a great topic for my graduating thesis.The topic is ''The Study of Pidgin English''.And after choosing the topic, I need to write and hand in my report about my topic between December 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022. And when my winter vacation comes, after my tutor finish examining my report, I need to gather all the materials that I have to finish my first draw of my thesis before March 19, 2022.And after examinations of my tutor and several revision of my first draw, my graduating thesis will be confirmed between May 11, 2022 and May 16, 2022.And after that, I need to prepare for my thesis defense between May 28, 2022 and July 10, 2022.And if I don#8217;t pass the first thesis defense, I need to prepare for the second thesis defense between July 11, 2022 and July 16, 2022.
